AUSTIN, TEXAS (November 17, 2008) - Avetec’s Data Intensive Computing Environment, or DICE Program, is now providing a wide range of high performance computing (HPC) data management technology and product testing and validation for industry, government and academic organizations.
“Managing and manipulating the explosion of high-end computing data is a growing challenge for HPC centers and solution providers,” said Al Stutz, Avetec Chief Information Officer and Principle Investigator for the DICE Program. “The DICE infrastructure can help organizations free up resources to focus on what they do best and maximize their HPC technology investments.”
DICE is a geographically distributed test environment that provides access to test and evaluation resources for new and emerging HPC data management solutions. Test beds are located throughout the U.S. The non-profit program provides independent product and technology testing, validation and consulting services with test beds approved by the government and supported by technical experts.
Each DICE site is comprised of representative technologies found in production HPC centers. It uses wide area network capabilities and is composed of compute, networking and storage technologies. The network is linked to well-known and highly respected national research networks. Each site maintains the basic infrastructure needed for a distributed computing environment.
The minimum capabilities at each site are:
“Multiple users put strain on busy networks with myriad demands,” said Roger Panton, DICE Program Executive Director. “The environment has changed and we need to discover new technologies that rapidly transform discoveries into validated, trusted high-value end products and services.”
The DICE Progam is administered by Avetec, Inc., a non-profit public benefit research organization that uses virtual testing environments to help solve complex problems, such as those in aerospace engineering.
