2010 DICE "Data Intensive Impact Awards of the Year"

HomeVenue & AgendaSponsors & Exhibitors

The DICE Data Intensive Impact Awards of the Year program was designed to showcase products and technologies that have improved data management in data centers (high performance computing (HPC) and/or enterprise) by applying the latest technologies and capabilities to enable progress in data locality, movement, manipulation and integrity. The solutions considered may be either hardware, software or a combination.  Two awards will be selected and presented at the DICE Alliance conference during the luncheon on Thursday, April 15.  The two awards are:

  • “Product of the Year” and
  • “Future Technology of the Year”

Selection Criteria

“Product of the Year” Award Criteria

A product can be either hardware or software or a combination of hardware and software. The product can be a new product or an enhanced version of the product.  The nominated product may be “revolutionary” (new approach) or ‘evolutionary.”  The nominated product can be open source or proprietary.

Selection will be made by the DICE Technical Team based on received nomination packages.  Nominations may be made by DICE Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) members, data center directors and/or the DICE Technical Team.  The DICE Technical Team will review all nomination packages and rank submissions based on the following selection criteria.  A product does not have to meet all criteria.

  1. The nominated product is currently the latest version/release and has been installed in the production environment of data centers.
  2. The nominated product has received widespread acceptance in a variety of data centers, HPC and/or enterprise.
  3. The nominated product addresses at least one of the four DICE Challenge Focus Areas.
  4. The nominated product has enhanced data management as reflected by quantifiable measures such as throughput improvement, return on investment (ROI), etc.
  5. The nominated product’s integration into the production environment met or exceeded expectations.
  6. The nominated product met or exceeded end-user expectations based on performance and level of support from the vendor.
  7. The nominated product improves power and cooling efficiency.

“Future Technology of the Year” Award Criteria

A technology can be either hardware or software or a combination of hardware and software. The nominated technology may be “revolutionary” (new approach) or “evolutionary.”  The nominated technology can be open source or proprietary.
A technology does not have to meet all criteria.

  1. The nominated technology has received widespread interest by a variety of data centers, HPC and/or enterprise centers.
  2. The nominated technology is projected to improve at least one of the four DICE Challenge Focus areas.
  3. The nominated technology is projected to improve power and cooling efficiencies.
  4. The nominated technology is projected to reduce cost of operations.
  5. The nominated technology is projected to improve data management as reflected by other non-financial metrics such as throughput improvement.
  6. The nominated technology has proceeded to the test and evaluation stage or further.
  7. The nominated technology has supporting, measurable test results substantiating projected benefits.
  8. The nominated technology is currently or has been beta tested in a data center with supporting results.
  9. The nominated technology has a high degree of compatibility with existing technologies.
